Magimix Food Processor - FAQs, Tips and Advice
Categories:
Magimix make some of the best food processors on the market. Stylish, robust and above all simple to use, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting started within minutes of getting it out of the box. But just in case you do experience any problems with your Magimix Food Processor, here are the answers to our 10 most frequently asked questions.
My machine won't turn on - help!
This is by far our most frequently asked question. And also one of the easiest to answer.
A Magimix Food Processor has a three-stage safety protection system and will only work if these are completed in the correct order. Always make sure you’ve pressed the STOP button before any of the following procedures.
Firstly, place the main bowl onto the motor unit with the handle positioned left of centre. Turn the bowl anticlockwise to lock it into place. If you are using one of the smaller bowls add them now, sliding them onto the motor shaft.
Next you need to lock the lid into position. Place the lid on top of the main bowl with the handle again slightly left of centre. Twist the lid anticlockwise until the lid locks into place. This should now align the safety rod with the switch.
Finally the food processor will only work if the large pusher is inserted in the large feed tube and the bottom of it lines up with MAX level indicator.
To remove the bowls simply follow the same steps as above but in reverse. Firstly press the STOP button. Remove the lid first by twisting clockwise and lifting off. Then remove the smaller bowls (if used) by lifting them out. Finally twist the main bowl clockwise to unlock it and lift off of the motor unit.
Which Magimix Food Processor model is best for me?
There are three sizes of Magimix Food Processor – the 3200XL, 4200XL and 5200XL. There’s also a 5200XL Premium which is the same size as the 5200XL but comes with a host of extras.
The 3200XL is the perfect size for catering for up to 4 people and won’t take up a huge amount of worktop space.
The 4200XL is ideal for up to 6 people and the 5200XL for larger families or for those who regularly entertain or batch cook. The bigger the machine, the more powerful the motor and the larger the bowl size. Obviously prices increases in relation to the size.
We recommend going a size above your current requirements if finances allow, as these machines are built to last (and families grow!)
Why has my machine stopped mid-task?
Your machine’s thermal failsafe has probably been activated. A heat sensor will turn the motor off automatically to protect it from damage due to overheating. This can be due to running the machine for long periods of time or if you are processing excessive amounts or heavy mixtures. If this happens press the STOP button and allow your machine to completely cool down before operating it again. If the machine fails to restart or continues to shut-off during operation you will need to contact Magimix customer services on 01483 528044.
Why is my dough not forming into a ball?
If when you are making bread dough in your Magimix Food Processor and it fails to form into a ball try adding a touch of extra water to bring everything together. Always ensure you are using the correct type of flour for the recipe you are following as certain types of flour require more water than others.
Why can't I remove the bowl from the motor unit?
You must remove the lid before you can remove the main bowl from the motor unit. Firstly, press the STOP button. Then turn the lid in a clockwise direction and lift-off. Carefully remove the blade and inner bowl/bowls (depending on what combination you are using). Finally turn the main bowl clockwise to unlock it from the motor unit and lift off.
Why is there a small stub of food left when I'm grating or slicing?
There is a small gap between the top of the grating/slicing disc and the bottom of the pusher. This is to prevent the pusher from coming into contact with the disc and causing damage. So it is normal for a small piece of what you are grating/slicing to be left over. Use the midi bowl when using a slicing/grating disc to keep this to a minimum.
Can I chop herbs in my Magimix Food Processor?
Of course you can. The mini bowl is perfect for this. If you are washing herbs before use make sure they are thoroughly dry (otherwise they tend to stick to the side of the bowl when chopped). For finely chopped herbs use the AUTO setting. For a coarser finish use the PULSE button. You can use the main bowl for chopping herbs too. For best results drop the herbs through the feed tube onto the spinning blade.
Can I put the bowls and blades in the dishwasher?
Yes you can. Obviously never immerse the motor unit in water. Wipe this with a damp cloth (always unplug the food processor before you do this). All other parts - bowls, lid, blades and discs can be placed in the dishwasher. We would always recommend washing by hand with warm soapy water to prolong the life and appearance of the parts. Please be extremely careful when washing and drying the blades and discs as they are razor sharp. Avoid using abrasive products such as stainless steel scrubbers and if possible don’t leave to soak for too long. Dry the items straight away, don’t leave to drain.
