Chopping Board

A chopping board counts among the most essential items in a kitchen and we have great selection. Not only does a board give you somewhere to prep, protecting your worktop from scratches, but the right chopping board can also be versatile. They can be used for cutting bread, fixing a snack, or preparing a meal, and having specific boards for certain tasks is a great way to avoid cross contamination in a busy kitchen. Some chopping boards are heat resistant, so hot pans or oven trays can be placed directly onto them, and many have a style or design that makes them great for doubling up as a serving tray.

Chopping boards are in constant use, so you want something that is high quality and long lasting. We have boards made from glass, plastic, granite, and wood, so there is sure to be something that will suit your kitchen design. From rustic wooden chopping boards, to bright vibrant plastic colours or print designs, there is a style that will be just right. We also have boards with a variety of features, including anti-slip feet, bread boards with crumb catchers, and spiked carving trays for Sunday roasts.

There are a large variety of chopping boards with differences including material, size, shape and colour and we stock a large number of different types. Let’s break down some of these differences to highlight the choices to be made.

Function
Kitchen boards serve a variety of functions, so it is useful to break down what types there are to determine what is the best option for your needs. The basic chopping or cutting board is used for everyday tasks like preparing vegetables or other ingredients. It will get a large amount of usage in the majority of kitchens. If you purchase unsliced bread or bake your own then you may also want to consider a bread board - these will be a suitable size for a loaf of bread and may include a crumb catcher or similar. The final option is a carving board which is used for carving meat. It may come with spikes to hold meat steady when carving, and/or a channel cut into the material of the board to collect juice from the meat and prevent it from running onto your worksurface. We also have some chopping board sets which include a number of boards for different ingredients or kitchen tasks.

Material
This is possibly one of the greatest considerations when purchasing a chopping board and there are a number of options. The material is not simply down to a style preference or what will match with your kitchen, but there are other things to also consider. Many wooden chopping boards need to be hand washed or wiped down rather than being immersed in water or placed in the dishwasher. So if you’re looking for something that is dishwasher safe, a plastic cutting board might be a better option. There are a number of different types of wooden boards also, from end grain chopping boards to beech, acacia  bamboo cutting boards and more, for a variety of different styles and finishes.

Size
Another thing to think about is the size of the board and what it will be used for. If you’ve only got a limited amount of kitchen surface or will only be using it to prepare a small number of ingredients then you may want to consider a smaller board. However, if you have a lot of worksurface to use then a large chopping board or a chopping board set might be a suitable option.

Style / Design
This consideration is more about personal preference than practicality. There are different shapes from circular, round chopping boards to oval, square and rectangular boards. Whilst again, the size and layout of your kitchen might make some difference here, this is more down to what you prefer. We also have some kitchen boards that have decorative designs which you may prefer over a plain plastic or wooden chopping board.
